About Us: What We Do

Community Torchlight DISTRESS CENTRE Wellington / Dufferin is a not-for-profit telephone listening service for the lonely and distressed, people in crisis, or those just needing  someone to talk to.

• Each call is handled in an atmosphere of confidentiality, anonymity, and impartiality

• You do not have to give your name.

• Our Distress Lines do not use call display:  you will not be identified.

• You decide how much information you want  to give.

We’re on your side.

• We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide a listening ear to callers who want to talk about the situations they are facing.

• Our service provides active listening and encourages individuals to trust their own abilities to engage in actions of their choosing.

• Above all, we give the emotional support individuals need to make the decision to take action.

• Our lines are staffed by community volunteers who care about others and who want to help.

• Our well trained volunteers are empathetic and non-judgemental.

•  They are prepared to help you examine your options.
